چکیده

Photocatalytic oxidation of sodium salt of 2,6-dichloroindophenol (DCIP) in titanium dioxide aqueous suspension has been studied. DCIP is photocatalytically oxidized on the active Ti02 surface by the medium pres sure Hg lamp with pyrex sleeve radiation (A>280nm). The apparent integral quantum yield of the DCIP decomposition was determined. Photocatalytic decomposition of DCIP in aqueous suspension of Ti02 can be described by the formal first-order kinetics. The same results can be obtained for Ti02 (P25) during the Hg lamp irradiation and solar exposure as well. The reaction is suitable for testing of the semiconductor powder photocatalytic activity.

Photocatalytic Selective Oxidation of 4-Methoxybenzyl Alcohol to Aldehyde in Aqueous Suspension of Home-Prepared Titanium Dioxide Catalyst

The photocatalytic oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol to p-anisaldehyde (PAA) was performed in water with organic-free suspensions of home-prepared and commercial titanium dioxide (TiO2) catalysts. The nanostructured TiO2 samples were synthesised by boiling aqueous solutions of titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4), under mild conditions, for different times. The crystallinity increased with the boi...

Survey of Nitrate Removal Method from Aqueous Solutions Using Titanium Dioxide Nano-Photocatalyst

Background & objectives: Because of its very high solubility, nitrate penetrates easily into soil and underground waters. Surface waters such as lakes, reservoirs, and rivers are exposed to nitrate pollution. Photocatalytic processes have a high potential for nitrate removal due to complete oxidation, lack of formation of multi-cycle metabolites and the availability of catalysts. The purpose of...

Solar Photocatalytic Degradation of Phenol in Aqueous Solutions Using Titanium Dioxide

In this study, photocatalytic degradation of phenol by titanium dioxide (TiO2) in aqueous solution was evaluated. The UV energy of solar light was utilized by compound parabolic collectors (CPCs) technology. The effect of irradiation time, initial pH, and dosage of TiO2 were investigated. Aromatic intermediates (catechol, benzoquinone, and hydroquinone) were quantified during the reaction to st...

Nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide photocatalysts for visible response prepared by using organic compounds

In order to utilize visible light in photocatalytic reactions, nitrogen atoms were doped in commercially available photocatalytic TiO2 powders by using an organic compound such as urea and guanidine. Analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that N atoms were incorporated into two different sites of the bulk phase of TiO2. A significant shift of the absorption edge to a lower...
